Brazil suspends Covaxin deal as Brazil’s health ministry, Bolsonaro faces allegations and graft charges
Brazil’s Ministry of Health has canceled the contract of $324 million with an Indian firm against the Covid vaccine. Brazil had signed a contract with India’s Bharat Biotech International Limited for around 20 million doses of its Covaxin. However federal prosecutors have initiated an investigation showing the high process and quick talks along with pending regulatory approvals as something not good.
As per the analysis of CGU there happens to be no irregularities in the contract but still the ministry of health chose to cancel it. The minister, Marcelo Queiroga,announced about Covaxin at a conference, following the footsteps of the federal Comptroller General of the Union (CGU). Queiroga further claimed that his team would look into the allegations during the period of contract suspension.
As per the to Johns Hopkins University, Brazil’s Covid-19 infection tally crosses over 18.5 million, the third-highest globally followed by United States and India respectively. The virus has till now taken more than 510,000 lives in the South American nation, ; this is the second-highest coronavirus-related deaths in the world right after that of the United States (604,474).
