India’s Tour of England seems to be a lucky one for Mithali Raj, for she is seen breaking records
The Indian women’s team won the third one-day international against England by four wickets, giving them a consolation victory in the three-match series. Mithali Raj’s undefeated 75-run innings and a 50-run partnership with all-rounder Sneh Rana (24) for the sixth wicket in the final over helped India to victory.
After winning the first two matches, the England women’s team had built an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. England’s squad, batting first, was reduced to 219 runs in the rain-affected match of 47-47 overs in the penultimate ball of the innings. India reached the mark in 46.3 overs, losing 6 wickets in the process.
For the fourth wicket, captain Mithali Raj and vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur put on a half-century stand. Harmanpreet batted for 38 balls before being lbw by Heather Knight. Deepti Sharma, too, was unable to cope with the pressure of the required run rate, and was dismissed after hitting 18 runs in 25 balls.
Mithali became the highest run-scorer in all three formats of international women’s cricket with this stunning innings (Test, ODI and T20 International). She passed former England icon Charlotte Edward (10273) for the most runs scored when she was smacked for a four by Nate Sciver while pursuing the goal in the 24th over.
