Iranian film ‘Sun Children’ nominated for International Feature Film category at Oscars
This is the sixth film of Majeed Majidi representing Iran for the Oscars. Earlier, his film ‘Childron of Heaven’ managed to make it to the final nominated list in 1998 but could not win the award.
Los Angeles. Iran’s famous filmmaker Majeed Majidi’s film ‘Sun Children’ has been officially nominated by Iran for the 93rd Academy Award. The film is about child labor and is Iran’s official entry into the category of Best International Feature Film.
According to Variety, representatives of Iranian cinema announced this on Sunday for the Oscar ceremony. The selection committee said that he screened 90 films and the last selected films included ‘Walnut Tree’, ‘Yalda: A Night for Forgiveness’ and ‘Careless Crime’.
This is Majidi’s sixth film to represent Iran for the Oscars. Earlier, his film ‘Childron of Heaven’ managed to make it to the final nominated list in 1998 but could not win the award. That year, the Italian film ‘Life is Beautiful’ was given this award. The film is about child labor, inequality and inconsistencies in the country’s school system in Iran. Iran’s films ‘A Separation’, ‘The Salesman’ have won the Best Foreign Language Awards in 2012 and 2017 respectively, and the films are directed by famous film producer Asghar Farhadi.
