Kayne Making His Presence In The Industry Known

•    What first got you into music? Man…I used to freestyle with the homies just for fun. One day, on a trip back home to Nigeria, on the plane I thought to myself “what if it was possible to really make this happen?”. We got back, and I left it alone, started getting in the street selling & robbing – just being dumb. Got locked up and while I was in there, I picked up the pen and pad and started writing again. Got out and linked with my cousin Haytr and we started s2 ENT and built this up from there.
    •    Who inspired you to make music?
I was inspired by so many. My girl Imani, who passed away was my biggest cheerleader. Musically, Everything from 2pac to Nirvana, Biggie to MJ and Prince. Rakim, LL, Wu-Tang, Bone Thugs, Outkast, Nelly, Jay Z, Nas, Big Pun, Cam…so many.
    •    How would you describe the music that you typically create?
I would describe it as unique, because alot of times you may hear the same beat I hear and you may hear someone spit fire on it, and I may end up singing on it. I take pride in the fact that you just dont know what you’ll get from me.
    •    What is your creative process like?
Usually I follow the beat. When I get the beat, it’ll tell me what to do on it. If I hear the beat and a melody hits me, I keep it and work on the hook. Then start working on my bars.
    •    Who would you most like to collaborate with?
I would’ve loved to have one with Pac, he’s my favorite of all time. Anyone who’s alive, man it’s so many. But if I have to pick I may say either Sade or Adele.
    •    If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?
Hov or Drake. I think my style of music would integrate with their  crowds.
    •    What is one message you would give to your fans?
Whatever your dream is, keep fighting. It can happen. Don’t look for family or friends to automatically support. Just know it’s a lonely road but as you start making headway you’ll see more people trying to help.
•    How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
It empowered the independent artist. We don’t have to rely on a record label anymore. We have control now, we can upload our own music, we can engage with fans on our own, we can book our own shows. It’s expanded the game so you have the major route but the indie route is very do-able now, alot to do with the internet.
    •    What is your favourite song to perform?
Favorite would be Damn Shawty or I Am the South, both off my album Lord, King to A God.
    •    Which famous musicians do you admire?
I admire all musicians because I know what it takes to create and how much work that goes into it. Artists who are also prominent business business people – would def be Jay Z, Rozay, and Nipsey Hussle. Their business hustle is admiring and I study them, watch & learn.
    •    What is the most trouble you’ve ever gotten into?
I got locked up when I was younger for robbing. Dumb young n***a sh*t. Lol. Definitely took that energy and put it somewhere else.
    •    What is the best advice you’ve been given?
Never give up. You may quite and your time could be right around the corner.
    •    If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
I would change the gatekeepers. There are people in high positions at labels that follow trends instead of actually looking at talent.
    •    What’s next for you?
Just started working on my next album, and working on getting outside on the stage as we speak. Putting out 2 singles from it soon, one r&b and one hip hop. My album Lord, King to A God is streaming now on all platforms! We did 300,000 streams in the first 24 hrs!
