Padma awardee and Islamic scholar Maulana Wahiduddin Khan dies at 96

Islamic intellectual Maulana Wahiduddin Khan passed away from corona virus disease as he was tested covid positive recently. His age was 96.

Khan was hospitalized to Delhi’s Apollo Hospital on Monday, April 12 because he was COVID-19 positive according to the family and news agency PTI’s report.

PM Narendra Modi commiserated his pass away and told the intellectual would be recalled for his “insightful knowledge” on spirituality and theology.

“Saddened by the passing away of Maulana Wahiduddin Khan. He will be remembered for his insightful knowledge on matters of theology and spirituality. He was also passionate about community service and social empowerment. Condolences to his family and countless well-wishers. RIP,” the PM tweeted.

In the year of 2020, Khan was awarded the third highest civilian award Padma Bhushan and on January, 2021 the government declared that he would be awarded the country’s second highest civilian award Padma Vibhushan.
