Root finds it difficult to pave way at Mark Wood’s absence in test against India
“Dawid Malan will give us a lot of experience in that top three, not necessarily in terms of international experience in Test cricket,” Root remarked in response to Dawid Malan’s selection. Over the course of his career, though, he has amassed a significant amount of international cricket experience, has handled pressure, and has played red-ball cricket. He has had tremendous success in all of these areas. We are well aware that he is capable of great things in Test cricket.” India will go into the third and final test at Headingley with a commanding 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Root expressed frustration at Mark Wood’s absence by saying, “Yeah, it’s difficult for Mark (Wood) and for us as a team as well.” That second innings (at Lord’s) in particular impressed me, as did his overall performance. With his increased speed, he provides a significant point of differentiation for us, and he seems to be quite excellent while playing. He is the one who is most frustrated, more so than anybody else. But that is something we must deal with.” Mark Wood had taken five important wickets in the second test at Lord’s, including two early wickets of both Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, who were both essential in the match’s outcome. The English batters were having difficulty keeping up with Mark Wood’s blistering speed.
