Ryan J. Condal of Rampage and George R. R. Martin back together with a bang
Ryan J. Condal of Rampage and George R. R. Martin, creator of the Song of Ice and Fire series, which both episodes are based on, are producing the project. House of the Dragon was the most recent in a long string of cancelled projects, which included Bridgerton and American Horror Story.
The spinoff is based on George R. R. Martin’s novel Fire and Blood, which chronicled House Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros and eventual demise.
The events of HBO’s famous fantasy series take place 300 years before the events of House of the Dragon, when the Targaryens still ruled Westeros. Paddy Considine will play King Viserys, Emma D’Arcy will play his daughter and heir-apparent Princess Rhaenyra, and Olivia Cooke will play Viserys’ second wife, Queen Alicent Hightower, who is looking for the kingdom for her sons.
Production on the House of the Dragon was interrupted after a member of the production team tested positive for COVID-19. In accordance with the show’s tight testing method and industry norms, the crew member was advised to isolate, and close contacts were told to do the same, effectively shutting down production on the series.
