The tiny German hamlet of Oberschlettenbach joined the festivities when Neeraj Chopra won the Olympics Javelin final.
Back home in India, the celebrations were wild, as it was a moment of pride for 135 crore Indians. But wait, the festivities were not limited to our nation; they also crossed the seas and reached a small hamlet of 130 people in south-west Germany. The tiny German hamlet of Oberschlettenbach joined the festivities when Neeraj Chopra won a gold medal in the Olympics Javelin final. This is due to the fact that the guy behind this enormous achievement is none other than Dr Klaus Bartonietz, a native of this town.
Uwe Hohn, India’s head coach for javelin, who is also from Germany, got a similar warm welcome in his hometown of Rheinsberg. Neeraj Chopra’s gold medal victory in the Olympics has become the buzz of the town in this village of 8000 people.
